I incorporate four different styles of massage in my practice: Swedish, Reflexology, Lymphatic Drainage and Shiatsu.
A brief explanation of each one can be found below
The term 'Swedish Massage' refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart.
The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.
Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable. Swedish Massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management.
The Reflexology Association of Canada defines reflexology as "A natural healing art, based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet and hands which correspond to every part of the body." By stimulating and applying pressure to the feet or hands, you are increasing circulation and promoting the proper functioning of specific bodily and muscular processes.
The word SHIATSU is Japanese and means pressure ("ATSU") with fingers ("SHI").Shiatsu acts through pressure with thumbs, fingers and palms applied to determined areas and points of the human body, in order to give flexibility to the skin, improve the circulatory system, give flexibility to the muscular system, facilitate the digestive system functions, improve the endocrinous system function and regulate the functions of the nervous system.
Lymphatic Drainage is a part of many different massage traditions including Lomi Lomi, a Hawaiian massage. This style of massage focusses on manual activation of the flow of lymph through the system. This allows the lymphatic system to flush excesses of water, protiens and wastes from connective tissues.
I also offer doula services (prenatal and labour support) for women and their partners. If you are interested, please email or call me and we can discuss your needs and set-up an interview. Please also be sure to check out Vancouver's Doula Services Association (DSA). They can help you to find several different doulas so that you may choose someone who best suits your needs.
"I have asthma and I always felt shortness of breath and tightness in my chest.
I used to take medication everytime I had these symptoms, it is one of the most horrible feelings in the world but after going to Adar Massage I noticed that those symptoms went away without medications.
Aimee helped me with the pain and tightness in my chest, shoulders and neck and after every session I feel healthy and happy.
Now I can breathe better!"
"Aimée found creative ways to make me comfortable while on the table and made sure the points of tension were reached. I found that my back pain lessened, my pregnancy anxiety became subtler, and I was able to work up until the eighth month.
The power of massage during this life change has also brought me more in touch with my and my baby's mental and physical health.
